Spring has just arrived, meaning there’s no better time than now to start creating a simple spring skincare routine to get you glowing before you bare more. But in this post, we talking less about your face and rather more about your skin from the neck down. All too often we neglect body care, but we should be paying it just as much attention as our facial skin!
Perhaps you’re sick of the ads urging you to “get your bikini body” before the temps start to soar? It can get a little demotivating, as we are all unique and striving for one particular body type is just unrealistic.
We promise this article isn’t about any unrealistic expectations, but rather about getting your skin spring ready through practices that will leave you feeling pampered and loved, as well as boost your confidence. When you feel good you radiate that inner contentment outwardly, and people will be drawn to your energy!
Spring Skincare Body Scrub using Coffee Grouts
Forget that morning cuppa Joe, and try a coffee scrub instead. Or why not do both? Just the whiff of caffeine can help to boost your energy levels, and leave you feeling more alert. Coffee is also wonderful for combating depression, but did you know it’s also incredible when massaged into your skin?
Caffeine helps to really get your circulation going, which helps to draw toxins out of the skin, and can reduce the appearance of cellulite when done on a regular basis. Considering that one third of all our toxins are excreted through our skin, helping the process along through a stimulating exfoliation makes sense. We’ve a chocolate body scrub version too, with sea salt added to get that summer coastal livin’ feel going!
Both are simple to make at home, and when added to a nourishing oil, you can enjoy the benefits of super silky skin after stepping out of the shower!
Beautiful skin loves to get sweaty!
Don’t panic! We aren’t going to tell you to enroll for a bootcamp or anything crazy like that! Exercise should be about finding something you love to do. Many people don’t exercise or give up quickly when they force themselves to do intense workouts that they simply don’t enjoy.
Sweating is an excellent way to release toxins and help to get your skin glowing from head to toe, but you need to find something you love and be consistent. If you love walking, then make it a priority to walk at least a few times a week, or go on a hiking excursion. If dancing’s your thing, then find some fun dance workouts on Youtube or sign up for a class. Exercise won’t only benefit your skin, your energy levels will skyrocket too, and your spirits will be boosted thanks to those wonderful endorphins.
Hydrate Skin From The Inside Out
Hydration is your key, your secret, to a radiant, healthy skin. It’s what creates glowing and plump skin, and is not just about what you slather on your skin, but also about what you choose to sip on every day. Sugary drinks and too much caffeine (don’t have much more than that one cuppa Joe!) will simply suck the water out of your cells, leaving your skin with a dull and dry pallor. But choose to fill your body with hydration in the form of pure, unfiltered water, and delicious smoothies or raw juices, and just watch your skin shine.
Add External Hydration Too
Of course, it’s just as important to hydrate externally too, and Shea butter is one of our favorite ways to add intense hydration to parched skin. Other excellent oils that your skin will simply drink up may be Argan oil or Marula oil. We’ve a low-down on the skin benefits of natural oils – botanical seed oils and active essential oils too.
Let the sun into your spring skincare routine
This may sound as if we are going against everything we have said about UV rays, but while too much sun on unprotected skin is not recommended, a little can be a great way to get your skin prepped and ready for the warmer weather.
After many months of covering up, you need to introduce exposed skin to the sun slowly, to avoid burning or damaging your skin, and we bet you wouldn’t mind saying goodbye to pasty winter skin and hello to skin that takes on a beautiful glow!
Just be sure to always wear SPF (your skin will still change color, we promise!) and to only stay out for a few minutes each day. That way, your skin will be ready for some time lounging poolside (protected of course!) without burning within 5 minutes of being out. The sun also provides the body with Vitamin D, which is an excellent vitamin for easing stress, lifting your spirits, and even helping with insomnia. Take a look also at our summer skincare tips for more on skin radiance without radiation.
We hope these tips help you to get your skin spring skincare routine ready without the pressure of achieving that “perfect figure”. Our advice is to take on board some small baby steps in terms of getting skin prepped and our body exercised – do things that lift your spirit, are in tune with your soul rather than which raise your stress levels. And if you don’t feel like a bikini, don’t buy one!
Love this!! Excellent advice! I love the part on sun and getting out there slowly to absorb some natural vitamin D. Just a great common sense approach to living a balanced lifestyle!
Thanks for the great tips!
Thanks Emma for the kind comment and yes, a commonsense approach is what it’s all about. Amazing how many of us don’t realise that in our ‘youth’ – especially if that happened to be in the 80s! At least, I hope, today the sensible sun-lifestyle-skin mantra is getting heard by younger women who will probably, all being well, have a better head-start on slow aging than some of us now in our 40s and 50s.
