If there’s one body part we all take for granted, it has to be our feet. We rely on our feet to carry us from place to place every day, to dance, to jump, to go on hikes; our feet, literally, carry do their unseen work for us throughout our life.
Yet we often neglect them, until that is, summer comes around and we find them on display!
We shove them into heels, we walk barefoot and allow hard calluses to develop, and we sometimes leave our cotton socks on for a little too long after a sweat fest at the gym. All this abuse can build up over time and cause a few undesirable issues.
Fortunately, there are many simple tips and tricks that will allow you to take better care of your feet. The secret is simply daily maintenance. We’ve mapped out an easy regminen of top tips for natural foot care that will bring your feet back to health and happiness.
Really Wash Your Feet
This one seems pretty obvious, but you’ll be surprised how many people don’t know how to properly wash their feet. Letting the excess soap drip off your body in the shower, or swiping a sponge roughly over your feet doesn’t cut it.
Bacteria and fungus love to hide out in the spaces between our toes. This is why it’s important to really scrub between each toe at least once a day. This will prevent foot fungus and conditions such as athlete’s foot. In fact, done regularly, it can even help to prevent colds and flu! Be sure to let your feet properly air dry before sliding them into your socks and shoes.
Go For Regular Pedicures
Regular pedicures are an excellent way to keep your feet and toes looking neat and healthy, however be sure to do your homework before choosing a spa. Here are some excellent tips for ensuring you choose a safe nail salon.
Regular pedicures will keep your nails short, neat and clean, and your feet free from hard, callused skin that looks less than sexy in those summer sandals!
Keep Them Hydrated
Like the rest of our skin, our feet need to be moisturized at all times to look healthy and happy. However, there are many things that can dry them out. You may feel like soaking your tootsies in some warm water and epsom salts after a long day on your feet, but did you know that while epsom salts are excellent for detoxifying your body, they can leave your feet feeling a little thirsty?
Instead try some warm (never hot) water in a large bowl. Add a few drops of your favourite oils, perhaps coconut or jojoba, or a nice blend. Next add a few drops of your favorite essential oil scents, such as lavender to soothe or peppermint to revitalize your feet. Sit back and soak until the water starts to cool and once dry, follow with a deeply hydrating moisturizer that contains coconut oil or shea butter. Wear The Right Shoes
We’ve all at some point sacrificed comfort for fashion when it comes to shoes? We understand how the right pair of shoes can instantly glam up your outfit, however over time, those uncomfortable shoes will not only damage your feet, but they’ll take a toll on your back too.
Just because you opt to wear more comfortable and supportive shoes, doesn’t mean they should be unfashionable. The most important aspect when looking for the perfect pair of shoes, be it flats or heels, is proper arch support.

Invest In A Foot File
Once your feet are looking and feeling fresh and sexy, it’s important to maintain them at home. One of our favourite tips is to keep a good foot file in your shower, and to file your feet for just a minute or two every time you lather up.
This will ensure your feet stay soft and callus free in between your pedi appointments. Simply ask your salon if you could purchase a foot file from them, chances are it won’t be a problem!
